Discover the Ultimate Guide to the Ford F-550

The Ford F-550 is a powerful and versatile heavy-duty truck that is perfect for tackling tough jobs. Whether you need to tow a trailer across town or haul a heavy load of supplies, the F-550 is up to the task. But before you purchase an F-550, it’s important to understand the differences between the F-450 and F-550.Configurations: F-450 vs. F-550
The Ford F-450 Super Duty is available in a wide range of configurations, designed to appeal to the driver who uses their pickup for daily adventures near Northern Chicago and Milwaukee. Choose from XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models, loaded with tons of standard features.
The Ford F-550 Chassis Cab can be had in XL, XLT, and Lariat configurations, and the Ford F-450 Chassis Cab is available with the same lineup.
Conventional pickup trucks excel at towing heavy cargo. If you’re looking for a truck that can tow more cargo than you’ll know what to do with, the Ford F-450 towing capacity is sure to impress:
F-450 Towing Capacity (Conventional Trailer): 24,200 pounds
F-450 Towing Capacity (5th Wheel): 32,500 pounds
F-450 Towing Capacity (Gooseneck): 37,000 pounds

Engines: Both the F-450 and the F-550 Chassis Cab models come equipped with a 7.3L V8 gas-powered engine. Either can be optioned with a 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel engine, too!
Maximum Payload: Either Chassis Cab truck can haul a maximum payload of 12,750 pounds.
Conventional Towing Capacity: The F-450 Chassis Cab can tow up to 17,500 pounds conventionally, while the F-550 can tow up to 18,500 pounds with a standard hitch. That’s right: the F-550 towing capacity gives you a slight edge from the start.
Gooseneck Towing Capacity: For a dramatically increased maximum towing capacity, hook up a gooseneck hitch or a 5th wheel trailer. With the 6.7-liter diesel engine, you can tow a trailer weight of up to 24,100 pounds with either model.
